Monthly Cleaning Routine

Regular maintenance keeps your printer running at its best and helps you avoid the kind of problems that lead to service calls or replacements. Most maintenance tasks don't require any tools or technical knowledge. Just a few minutes of attention every month or two.

Cleaning the outside of your printer takes about a minute with a slightly damp cloth. Don't spray cleaning products directly onto the machine. Wipe down the paper tray too, since dust and paper fibers accumulate there over time and can cause feed issues.

Inside the printer, the areas around the toner cartridge and the paper path collect the most debris. Power off the printer, open the access panels, and gently wipe any visible dust or toner residue with a dry lint-free cloth. Be careful around the drum and fuser. These are sensitive components that don't like being handled roughly.

The paper pickup rollers are worth checking every few months. If they feel smooth and shiny instead of slightly tacky, clean them with a damp lint-free cloth. Worn rollers are one of the top causes of paper feed problems and they're usually an easy fix. Replacement rollers are inexpensive if cleaning doesn't restore them.

Keep your firmware updated as part of your maintenance routine. Updates often include print quality improvements and bug fixes that you wouldn't know about otherwise. It's a quick check that can prevent headaches later.
